ABOUT
Toronto born and New York city based Maddie Regent released her debut EP in October of 2021 after a couple rounds of successful single releases proved her music had an audience of more than just her mother, and her best friend. The lead single off the project, “EGO,” has since become a viral success after a tik tok video featuring the song reached over 5 million views. Written with and produced by LA based writer/production trio LIONCHLD, the EP “MISS REGENT” has been streamed over 1 million times across platforms and play-listed by popular music discovery blog: “Ones to Watch.”
In December 2022, Maddie put out the emotional pop ballad “Heavy Little Things,” which was co-written with Cade Hoppe and produced by Harper James, of the indie-pop band Eighty Ninety. Digging deeper into her struggles with mental health, HLT has proven to become a fast favorite among loyal listeners.
In the beginning of January Maddie released her first single of the year, “SIDE FX,” featuring an energetic pop sound that sets the stage for her upcoming project coming in the summer.
RECENT RELEASES
MISS REGENT
Released on October 1st 2021, “MISS REGENT” arrived with force. The EP takes the listener through a breakup- and the phases of grief that followed. It begins with “SALT,” an honest account of dealing with betrayal, and finishes with “LET IT GO,” a high energy and cathartic anthem about acceptance and looking towards brighter days.
Made with LIONCHLD, Lorraine Lawson and Dajaun Martineau- MISS REGENT marks the beginning of Maddie’s journey in the music industry. Introducing herself as an up and coming pop innovator.
EGO
EGO was made in June 2020 over zoom with close collaborators LIONCHLD, a writer/production group who have penned songs for pop giants Bebe Rexha and Britney Spears. With Maddie in Toronto and the group in LA, the foundation of EGO came together in only 2 days. 2 months later, the vocals were recorded in Maddie’s bedroom in NYC, with the Shure sm7b she had recently gotten for her birthday.
While the process of making and finishing this track was a bit all over the place, the song itself is hysterically straightforward. It's about realizing your narcissistic ex will never admit to their faults, and how although that's hard to accept (enter pointed verses and hard baseline) you’d rather have a broken heart than have no heart at all: “I never want to be like you, cause no-one will be there for you in the end..except for your ego” Maddie sings in the bridge. With unapologetic lyrics and an “I’m so much better off” beat, EGO is sure to be a summer favorite.
